There are great places in the world and I have been fortunate enough to visit some of them. And there are a lot more that I haven’t been to. And of course there are great buildings in those places. I want to highlight some of the best places and buildings I know.
And some places are simply horrible. Horrible as places in their own right and in some cases living in harmony with some of the worst buildings I have ever seen. And sometimes great buildings live in horrible places. And vice versa.
Unlike many people I have worked in jobs that have required travel giving me a free ticket to some of the best and worst. So I am going to share some of what I have seen and experienced if only because my memory is fading rapidly and history is beginning to assume a sepia tinge of respectability that I am pretty sure it did not deserve at the time. So if you’ll indulge me a little I am going to take you on a tour of some of the best and worst places I have been to. And some of the best and worst buildings I have tripped across on the way.
This isn’t TripAdvisor as I am not intending any advice. I am sure you won’t agree with all my observations or thoughts and that is a good thing. And we should discuss this. I am not an expert on buildings or places; simply I know what I like and what I don’t even if I can’t explain why.
